Antipiracy Brigade: incineration of seized fake products

On Saturday, November 3, the team of the national antipiracy brigade (BAP) incinerated the majority of the counterfeited CDs and DVDs, about 35 000 pieces, seized by the BAP team during the antipiracy operation which started in mid-October. The incineration operation was performed in the rural Commune of Bongantsara and was supervised by representatives from the Ministry of Justice and the local authority.

Officially started by the antipiracy brigade (BAP) three weeks ago, the operation primarily aims at defending the copyrights of Malagasy artists and securing the markets of original products. During three weeks, more than 50 000 discs were seized and five individuals were apprehended by the brigade force, one of whom is an employee of the Malagasy office of copyrights (OMDA) who is reportedly accused of complicity. For lack of evidence, the OMDA employee was released by the tribunal while the three other individuals were placed in custody.
