The new mediator in the Madagascan crisis, lately designated by the SADC, is probably on Madagascan ground for a new cycle of last chance negotiation.

Chissano the new mediator of the SADC on Madagascan ground

Joachim Chissano, the ex-president of Mozambique, is going to try to re-launch the negotiations in view of a consensual solution to the Madagascan political crisis. So far, all political blocks look ready to return to the negotiation table. What’s left to be known is whether they’re ready to make concessions to clear on a compromise.

Before the resumption of talks, the legalistic side, which sustains the president in exile Marc Ravalomanana, announced their will ” to share the power” with the other sides. And to concretize it in a charter.

The putschist reaction is currently expected. The HAT members ruled out the return of Ravalomanana indeed in Madagascar.

The Mozambican ex-president will probably have a hard job to reconcile everyone’s stands. It’s not yet Mission Impossible but everything will depend of the will to go forward in the process.

The resumption of the talks seems essential, because the whole international community requires an “inclusive” process; the SADC, the African Union, the UNO and the European Union’s Commission. All of them have so far been ruling out the resort to force to solve the crisis.
