Scores of Malagasy voters actually have their names everywhere but inside the electoral register of 7 823 305 names in spite of the registered increase of voters number compared to previous figures. Of course, no department is eager to take the blame for this issue which inevitably arises doubst concerning the reliability of the electoral register as a whole. The National Electoral Commission (CENIT) argues that doubles have been erased from it. How comforting it is supposed to be.

Electoral register: who is to be blamed?

Many voters were disillusioned when failing to find their names on the electoral register. They will not be able to cast their votes on October 25th, and blame the Electoral Commission’s crap job and the ruling power. The reply displayed zero tolerance though. “The electoral register has been opened to the people for over a year” as a way for Attalah Beatrice, the acting president of the Electoral Commission, to make it clear that citizens have been having the duty to check the electoral register up for their names and signal any problem in time. Some poorly informed citizens did not forcibly know about this duty. Only few days to the D day, they are rushing to polling stations and do what was supposed to be done long ago. It is too late. All of the unfortunate voters will have to wait for the presidential elections’ second round which will take place together with the legislative elections to redeem themselves. The electoral register is not sealed and will reopen to new inscriptions only after the completion of the presidential election’s first round
