The speech produced by the president of the High Authority of the Transition caused some reactions concerning a couple of points. Point one: the Rajoelina mobility is keeping on organizing its unilateral election. Point two: civil servants will get a 10% rise on their pay check. Waves of condemnation were raised by the first point, scepticism by the second one, the other mobilities are resenting.

HAT presidential wishes: reactions of resentment and scepticism

Fetison Andrianirina, co President of the Transition according to the Malagasy transitional charter’s additional agreement, condemned the speech produced by Andry Rajoelina and accused him of leading the country toward darkness. “He has just confirmed that Madagascar does no more need collaboration with the international community, the country is going to be isolated”, regretted the Ravalomanana mobility’s chief.

The Malagasy people will be, are already, supporting the consequences of the Rajoelina mobility’s stubborn attitude. Fetison Andrianirina is convinced of it. “Despite the fact that international partners had a particular consideration towards Madagascar’s population, leaders are, as a matter of fact, progressively turning away from the citizens’ interest”, he confirmed.

“Let each and every Malagasy understand that the excuse for this crisis was the quest for the best for them; now, the people must make sacrifices because of the selfishness of those that want to monopolize the whole power “, added Fetison Andrianirina. He/it draws up a balance catastrophic of the power change in the country. “The instability created by Andry Rajoelina in 2009 has one certain result: poverty”, he concluded.

Fetison Andrianirina noticed that the country is sinking deeper in a dark tunnel because of Andry Rajoelina’s initiative. “I am making a call for the implementation of the Maputo charter and for a return to democracy”, he declared. He bitterly noticed arbitrariness, deterrents and violation of press freedom repeatedly perpetrated by the authorities.

An artificial rise for wages

The other big scoop announced by Andry Rajoelina was the rise on civil servants’ pay checks. It did not emerge as a real surprise since the president of the HAT had just given a 10% bonus rise to the presidency’s collaborators whereas this institution’s running budget has been halved. In face of grumbles from civil servants, healthcare sector as first, a preferential treatment towards the staff of the HAT would have made a bad picture.

A general wage rise is not planned by the year 2010’s finance law whose creed is austerity. But Andry Rajoelina successfully convinced the Treasury secretary of using his magic wand. Now that ministries’ budgets have been reduced, as well as the chances to regain foreign financial support, a virtual wage rise is coming into force with a substantial rate of 10%.

“It is demagogy “, “where will the necessary funds stem from?”, “it is a political and anti-economic decision”… doubts and disapprobation are popping up. Others are more pragmatic: “if the HAT has to master civil servants, so better if it does so with rising wage “. The unprecedented giggle stemmed, at any rate, from the announcement style: During the night before the best wishes ceremony, Andry Rajoelina turned around in his bed, and thought about the civil servants…
