The Vakinankaratra regional office of Tourism is standing by the "long term" label to kick start activities undermined by the home grown political crisis and the backlashes of the global economic downturn. The idea is compliance with the western tourists' requirements for defence of the environment and populations' well-being.

Incoming “long term tourism” for operators from the Vakinankaratra region

The names of the Vakinakaratra region’s nominee hotels for the “long term tourism” label reward will be known by July 2010. The NGO Acting For Life led publication of its investigations’ results is actually taking 6 months. They were 36 tourist operators to have to have contested for this honorary title with significant marketing impact.

According to Boris Viallet from the Acting For Life organization, the “long term tourism” theme does not, as usually understood, restrict to ecological measures, since various economic, social and cultural data are being held into account. “It is a general tourist trend”, he argued, particularly referring to the European and American market.

The label is granting boosts to small scale tourist operators proposing a human and ecological panel of services. The NGO Acting For Life has been building its fame on its commitment to defend the development of long term ethical tourism, as well as its support to the rural populations’ led fight against poverty.

The integration of long term tourism is in no way difficult in the Vakinakaratra region. This part of Madagascar’s central regions has pioneers in number as for long term development projects and ecotourism. The junction of both ends ought to ease the task further more. The genuine challenge is the normalization of the local facilities for a decent tourist framework. Following the blossoming of host rooms, tourist tours and their shelters are on the way forward. For the Vakinakaratra region, the regularization of these small casual facilities is a priority.
