Even in crowded places, pickpockets are growing in numbers downtown. Insecurity reigns, day and night here. This has been the case of a neighbor of mine who has been the victim of a pickpocket who snatched his mobile phone in an area regarded as “red zone” in terms of security. This incident occurred at a place ill-known called “Barrière Isotry”.

Insecurity reigns downtown

In this area, pickpockets are well-organized and have at their disposal a strong network. The neighbor victim tried to chase after the pickpocket but someone from behind tripped him up. So he gave up returning to his car shocked and surprised. The crowd did not say anything for fear of reprisals – the pickpockets in this area are highly ill-reputed for that.

Again last week, a young woman has been victim of the same wrongdoing but with her gold-plating earrings. This occurred on her way from Analakely to Ambatonankanga. She was so frightened and shocked that she renounced to attend the club she was heading.

Pickpockets are striking highly in frequence and above all the most vulnerable individuals, such as women. There is no need to play a hero because one might lost-life. As it has been the case of a famous artist recently. Local media corroborate that. In spite of the extreme poverty in the country, Malagasy people are used to be brave back in the history above all against injustice. Whatever the case, the security if individual should be at the first stage of human rights.
