After the tariffs decrease, the Jirama still tops the headlines with the appointment of a new CEO who is Malagasy, Désiré Rasidy. The international partners didn't suspend the financing of the company.

Jirama: the general direction given to the Madagascan Désiré Rasidy

 

 

Désiré Rasidy is not a new kid on the block since he has already been in charge of Jirama before the company became the object of a management contract in 2005. Chosen among six candidates, he preaches continuity to achieve the restructuring plan of the company.

“The problem has always been the Jirama’s tariffs” recognized the general manager. He confirms that a tariffs reduction had been operated in the first half of the decade, contrary to the appearances. “The prices reduction, in real terms, was of 50% compared to the inflation “, explained Désiré Rasidy. 

 

The 10% implemented reduction from May 2009 is a good deal, according to the general manager of the Jirama. “Three entities are to consider, explained Désiré Rasidy, the state which is the owner and which must preserve the citizens’ interests, the Corporation which must function and finally the consumers who will endure a too high pricing. The restructuring of Jirama should not jeopardize the partnership with the foreign backers. “The restructuring financings with the traditional financial backers but also by the private sector “, explained the minister of the energy. The yards concern the production, the recovery and the financial management.  

Minister Jean Rodolphe Ramanantsoa reiterates that the management of waters won’t have separated from that of electricity. “The uncertainty won some financial backers who had some doubts on the stability of the company and its payback capacity “, it replied. The minister of the energy reassures that Jirama’s main financial suppliers are still there, the World Bank, the AFD, the BNI, the OPEC, the BADEA, the BAD…
