It was celebrated in music by the HAT, and in discretion and dignity by its opponents, the 50th independence's anniversary failed from recalling the republican and democratic values for which the country was expected to commit after the end of the colonization. These entertaining, thrice entertaining party, clearly reminded, however, that an entertainer and a DJ is in control of the...turntables.

June 26th desecrated by an entertainment regime

Malagasy adopted the Day of Music as a matter of fact, an event invented in France by Jack Lang, on its way to becoming a worldwide party day on every June 21st. The series of free concerts during week of Madagascar’s 50th independence’s anniversary could have let believe that the country was celebrating the music’s day. The Kassav band, the fat rapper Big Ali, Brig, the Raggae singers in the R’n’b Brick and Lace way, and the R’n’b French Nadya contributed to the spectacle.

Some voices rose against such excesses. Andry Rajoelina might have won international recognition from artists, as well as some frownings from Malagasy stars banned from the first stage. The HAT former minister in charge of Communication, Nathalie Rabe revolted against the choice of these foreign performers. No matter the creed “national Pride and patriotism “, offering spectacle and the entertainment initiative to Malagasy was paramount. But it was nobody but Andry Rajoelina himself who preferred these international artists. And the former DJ Andry TGV made it a personal pride in front of Mahajanga’s audience united for Kassav’s other concert.

The young first HAT couple attended Mr Big Ali’s concert. The American rapper paid tribute to the Malagasy people by wearing a huge flag on his shoulders. Someone should have told him earlier that the local tradition was requiring the white, green and red stripped banner to be kept away from the ground. But who cares about rules now? At least, the spectacular Big Ali entertained lady Mialy Rajoelina, come before her husband in Anosy in order not to miss out a thing from spectacle. Balancing her head, hitting the thigh with the hand, the HAT first lady, dressed like any pretty young woman, also proved to be in the beat. Her young man appeared a little bit puzzled, deep inside his comfortable seat, a finger on the cheek. Big Ali’s mixing demonstrations certainly reminded him the good old days.

The best was, however, still to come. A second to none technological and cultural revolution occured in the country… of course the sound and light show through fountains in Anosy. Yes, it was beautiful. And it was even linked to the country’s independence this time around. The following message written in Malagasy could be read: ” Madagascar 50 years od”. The main attraction was the series of holograms of all of Madagascar’s chiefs of state since 1960. The elected presidents Philibert Tsiranana, Didier Ratsiraka, Albert Zafy and Marc Ravalomanana with the striped scarf, the necklace and the national order’s golden badge, the three military leaders having directed transitions between 1972 and 1975, namely the general Gabriel Ramanantsoa, colonel Richard Ratsimandrava and the general Gilles Andriamahazo in uniforms, and the deputy chief of state Norbert Ratsirahonana in a classical tux

But what about Andry Rajoelina? The HAT leader appeared on a couple of photos, on the first one in an elected president’s outfit, and on the second one in a classical tuxedo more suited to his self proclaimed chief’s statute in this transitional authority. The young Andry TGV attracted the attention during the party in a different outfit though. His black jacket with a mao collar mao and golden buttons and ornaments is unbelievable. Some voices argued that it was meant to recall his rise to power from a supposed revolution. Others said that the authority leader was having a taste of monarchy. If this is not spectacle expertise, then tell us what is it? One can no more wait for finding out the HAT leader’s surprise for Christmas!
