The ousted president Marc Ravalomanana put up a low profile after the Addis Ababa meeting and paved the way for Fetison Andrianirina, back then the brand new Transition's Co President. In the setting of Maputo III, he emerged from silence again to remind that the ultimate goal remains the elections, and to express his concerns about the present stumbling block's consequences on the people

Marc Ravalomanana: the government and the elections quickly

Echoing the points of the other mobility leaders gathered in Maputo from December 04th to December 08th, 2009, Marc Ravalomanana denounced the dictatorial authorities’ deliberate will to block the creation of the Transition’s institutions. “Though we tried to convince the Rajoelina mobility to come forth, it did not… I can figure out the Malagasy people’s concerns as for the resolution of this political crisis”, he declared. The three mobilities underlined the serious and dangerous consequences for the Malagasy state due to the stumbling block purposely created by the Rajoelina mobility.

The immediate solution defined by the Maputo III stage remains the foundation of the governmental staff for the national unity Prime minister, Eugene Mangalaza. “I am longing for the quick setting up of the transitional government in order to move toward to the elections craved by all Malagasy citizens”, entrusted Marc Ravalomanana. He regretted the Malagasy authorities’ lack of consideration of the mediators, namely Joachim Chissano. “It is we who need him”, he said. “We all know that sanctions, that are threatening Madagascar are imminent, the people is going to be burdened”.

According to Marc Ravalomanana, the path to recover grace among the international community is still very long. “Appointing the three presidents anew is not enough to have game over”, he warned. “The national unity government must absolutely be set up, may that come true, God willing”.

The power to the people

Marc Ravalomanana does not drag that much on the transition’s relevance in itself, and concentrates his interest on the post transitional era. “We must work together to make a success of the transitional mission: organizing the elections “, he insisted. And he added: “The power must be returned to the people, it is the only one entitled to choose its leader”, emphasized the president ousted by civilian and military Coup. He estimates that these elections will have to be transparently completed in order to avoid any further crisis.

Marc Ravalomanana puts the consequences of these cyclic unrests forward. “We have been harvesting the results of financings, everything was destroyed within less than a year”, he regretted.  “We are going to rebuild the country”, spoke the former president. Difficulties are not going to fade away by a stroke of magical wand because we have recessed very far back”. The latest elected president, however, expects fears to be cast aside as soon as the consensus is restored.

“May all plagues be gone with this ending year”, so is President Ravalomanana’s wish. He invited the Malagasy to meditate on how have ended the hurried initiatives which lead to putsches. “It is life; it is all about the nation; efforts have to be done to find solutions “, he concluded.
