The Audiovisual Communication's Superior Council (local CSCA) altered its name, but ot its mission. The media control office's new leaders promised to conduct a cleansing operation against the pirate radio and television stations. The new HAT communication minister is keen on strictly imposing the rules to regular stations.

Press world: a political purification by the CSCA?

As taking over from the young politician Nathalie Rabe on top of the Communication ministry, technician Felix Malazarivo wants to police the media world.”A very deep cleansing operation will take place”, warned the national Radio station’s former director. The CSCA will tackle the restoration of order among the 250 radio stations and 25 TV channels broadcasting across Madagascar. “Although democracy and pluralism are the creed, order must not be ignored”, he argued.

The CSCA is the institution entitled to grant TV or radio stations authorizations to open and broadcast, as well as the one entitled to order their closing. It monitors the respect of rules by license holders. “To all of you having an authorization, do keep on respecting your specifications “, emphasized the HAT government’s new minister of Communication. For this to do, the CSCA is collaborating with various other institutions as the OMDA in charge of copyrights management, and the OMERT, the national frequency watchdog.

Following the Vital government’s reshuffle, the CSCA has new leaders since the Communication and Telecommunication ministers on top are new. The former duet Nathalie Rabe – Augustin Andriamananoro ended their missions by closing the opposition’s Fahazavana radio station. The new duet Felix Malazarivo – Iharizaka Rahaingoson are tackling the issues through a general cleansing of the country media nebula. On the eve of elections, their mission is fundamental since many of the ‘s radio stations have turned into pirate clandestine broadcasters.

The purification in question concerns the respect of the assigned frequency, a fundamental specification. The CSCA is, moreover, policing the waves as it is, from then on, systematically checking the broadcasted information, and got all of the necessary hardware to record programs. Former minister Nathalie Rabe planned to grant total independence to this regulation and control institution. In the end it was merely a simple shot in the dark, an argument as empty as the pledged opening of public waves to the opposition.
