Basic products´prices are a common topic in the Malagasy press. Households´ income have largely been being cut as a side effect of the year 2009´s political crisis, whereas consumer prices have been rising on end

Price rise for basic products from the year´s very beginning

Fuel price have been repeatedly rising all along the year 2009. It eventually could have been played down since the driving par to the population is merely representing 5% of it. But transportation companies are threatening to rise their prices too, and that makes the issue more relevant than ever.

Rice, meat and vegetable prices all rose by the beginning of the year. The urban population is somehow conscious that the situation is not entirely depending on the political authority, but Andry Rajoelina might be asked for accounts for having failed to fullfill his promise of better life conditions for the people, promise made in 2009 in order to draw support for his putsch.
