The HAT's diplomacy got an unexpected puff of fresh air, as the United Nations sent a "personal invitation" to the leader of the Madagascar's Hight Authority to attend the year 2010's General Assembly. The foreign minister made for New York, and returned convinced of having conviced the whole wide world but the SADC. But the HAT is not yet the one writing history books and now, mediator Chissano's envoys are back on Malagasy soil.

SADC: appeasement diplomacy fo a challeged HAT

Dr. Leonardo Simao is very much in touch with the political crisis for having repeatedly visited Madagascar. Things have been changing since his latest visit paid during the attempted mediation which led to this failed national conference. The dictating authority actually announced the point break, but the national conference’s resolutions won’t yet be implemented. The constitutional referendum and last minute communal elections required by TGV supporters are the next issues on schedule.

THe HAT is moreover tightening the opened gate to a consensus, so that the opposition’s political spheres are meant to be entitled to crumbs from the role casting process in the transitional parliament. The constitutional alteration is a done deal. Even though the Constitutional Advisory Committee is denying to have obeyed orders from the HAT, the drafted text to be proposed on November 17th is a boost for the dictating authority as well as for its leader himsel, Andry Rajoelina

Ramino Paul, the Raiamandreny mijoro’s president who organized the national conference ordered by the HAT, emphasized that the meeting boycotted by the opposition’s three political spheres was the first meaningfull step toward the recovery of international recognition. He subsequently linked the invitation sent to Andry Rajoelina by the United Nations to the national conference’s success. The foreign affairs’ minister argued to have convinced everyone, and that the world would have bought the imposed authority’s propaganda as well as its version of the truth about the Malagasy crisis.

the HAT foreign minister Hyppolite Ramaroson produced a military speech instead of a diplomatic one. He boasted to have challenged the SADC, accused of being the stumbling block of the crisis, for allegedly being president Ravalomanana’s accomplice. According to the HAT’s diplomatic number one, the SADC would have clearly displayed its reluctance to deal with the malagasy authorities during the UN’s general assembly, an oppostion which allegedly favored the Malagasy.

The SADC did not appear any intimidated by the statement. Mediator Chissano’s envoys are keeping on with their mediation job as they did before. The HAT and the Rajoelina herd are the ones playing in defense. “If they are coming to question what has been dealt between Malagasy, they travelled for nothing” declared Jean Lahiniriko
