Thanks to collaboration with the World Health Organisation, Madagascar will receive its first doses of vaccines against Swine Flu (H1N1) in January.

Swine Flu: 2 millions of vaccine doses expected

Some 2 millions of vaccine doses against swine flu will soon be landing in Madagascar, and will be dedicated in priority to medical staff, to people suffering from chronic sickness, to pregnant women, and to children.

The healthcare authorities are expecting the forthcoming vaccination campaign to slow down the outbreak of the pandemic through the Malagasy territory.

Until now, swine flu (H1N1) has been contaminating a few more than 800 people throughout the country. The crushing majority (about 700 cases) are located in the region of Antananarivo and its surroundings. The pandemic is, however, far from being merely urban. Many rural areas have already been hit as well. Three swine flu related fatalities have been recorded. According to the ministry for healthcare, the dead people already suffered from other illnesses which only worsened their estate.
