Madagascar's failure to be reconducted in the setting of the AGOA commercial agreement has been becoming the source of the loss of few thousands of jobs since the beginning of the year. The victimized workers are, now, reacting.

The AGOA era’s dropped workers are grumbling

They gathered in the afternoon of January 22nd in Antsahamanitra, as an evidence of solidarity during a prayer ceremony. The AGOA régime’s tax free factory workers are anxious to attract the authorities’ attention. The AGOA related gains defense committeen, an entity created because of the, by that time, pending non eligibility threat for the year 2010, convened the employees who already lost their source of income, and those who might well join them on the sidewalk within the next months.
The committee led gathering is longing for attracting the attention of the country’s political leaders. Since the end of 2009, the members have been vehemently striving to convince politicians of finding a common ground in order to avoid the American sanction. Some 40.000 direct jobs are being concerned. The tax free corporations have been granted a significant share of the United States’ market thanks to the AGOA regime. The more than one year long political crisis was a valid motive to exclude the Great Isle from the party.
The AGOA related gains defense committee still displays its non-aligned status anyway. Its members do not make a secret of their disappointment caused by the current team, and by its unability to turn out solutions to the social and economic crisis, the aftermath of the political crisis that it caused.
