Antananarivo's Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Handicraft(CCIAA locally) presents on April 09th and 10th, 2010, the Meva Fashion Week show in Antaninarenina. The event is promoting fashion design as a potential industrial sector. The Malagasy fashion designers will be parading products meant to be newly orienting to a larger than life market.

The Chamber of Commerce keen on industrializing the made in Madagascar fashion design

The Meva association is the CCIAA’s partner number one in the industrialization of fashion design. Both stallions are joining forces to modernize the fashion design’s output in consideration of available national resources. “Showing that Madagascar can turn out second to none trends in the fashion world” is the openly declared ambition.

Malagasy fashion designers have been specially trained in order to keep their creativity blossoming on and on . Propelled by the creative artist and fashion designer Joël Andriamanerasoa, the project has been centered on creation with no limit but those of fantasy. These new products are the first steps toward the fashion design industry Clothing articles and accessories created by the trainees will be presented in the Meva Fashion Week show. Apart from the exhibition and the catwalking parade, the event is also a contest. The winner will be entitled to training in a fashion design school abroad.

According to Jean Gabriel Harison, president of the CCIAA, the fashion design market is lucrative in Madagascar, but not yet for Malgasy creators. “Added values imported from abroad are actually making history at home”, he underlined. Chinese products are massively omnipotent, and fiercely challenge the local, and too seldom production. “Malagasy made products will have to reconquer their own home market”, argued the president of the CCIAA. The Malagasy label is still lagging far behind on the market. The T-shirt is the single malagasy massive industrial product. Prices have gone down, and articles are no more exclusively purchased by foreigners. Design renewal has hugely contributed to re-launch home demand.
