The Malagasy crisis is ending, theoretically at least. The signature of the Transitional Charter's Additional Act by the four political mobility leaders is putting an end to ten months of struggle and unproductive controversies.

Tiébilé Dramé: “There is neither winner nor loser”

“Is there to be a winner, it is well Madagascar and its people”, so sounded the words emerged from the United Nations’ envoy within the international mediation team on the Malagasy crisis. Tiébilé Dramé has produced a statement as the delegations involved in the Addis Ababa meeting came back to Antananarivo.

Tiébilé Dramé has actually immediately made to the Great Isle together with the participants to the mobility leaders’ meeting, in order to monitor the signed agreements as closely as possible. He was keen to congratulate the “wisdom and responsibility displayed by the Malagasy politicians.”

According to Tiébilé Dramé, the time has come to address the future. The same creed emerged from the Transition’s co president, Emanuel Rakotovahiny, as he specified that “referring to political mobility is, from now on, off the point; now it is all about the Transition”. Former president Albert Zafy also insisted on the “inclusive” and “consensual” characters of the jointly managed Transition as stipulated in the Maputo agreements.

The transitional Charter’s Additional Act is planning the creation of a presidential Council including Fetison Andrianirina from the Marc Ravalomanana mobility and Rakotovahiny Emanuel, from the mobility Albert Zafy, as co chairmen.

At the end of negotiations, Marc Ravalomanana finally had to accept the maintenance of the former capital city mayor, Andry Rajoelina, at the transitional presidency. As in many cases, the young putsch maker finally had to be legitimized on top of the country in spite of repeated remonstrations from the ousted President’s supporters.

Andry Rajoelina, anyway, was forced to “share the power” in return. And he will have to resign from the transitional presidency 60 days before the vote, could he be intending and entitled to run the next presidential elections.
