Hatred, revenge, political crime, a robbery which went wrong, with premeditated murder, assumptions are swarming following the gruesome discovery of General Claude Ramananarivo’s family, former state police commander and a member of a stillborn military board in 2009.

Triple homicide at General Ramananarivo’s. It was a massacre. What for?

On Wednesday, officials of the Fokontany Andohan’i Mandroseza and state policemen from Betongolo entered General Ramananarivo’s home, as required by family members made concerned by the fact that the gate was closed from inside. Walking in the yard proved enough to make an idea of the tragedy. The stench of rotting flesh was overpowering. Blood was massively leaking down from the hall.

The front door was locked. People had to force entry to the floor. The first dead body was discovered. It was Fitiavana , General Ramananarivo’s adoptive  daughter. The victim was 16 years old and suffered of a light mental deficiency. “The body is already quite damaged; the skull was visible,” said an official from the fokontany. The police forces found out a complete mess in the ground floor, furnitures and objects upside down.

The next victims were found lying on each other in the basement by the investigators. They were the general and his wife Yvonne. Both parents were most likely tortured. Did they resist? The forensics did report signs of torture. The daughter was namely electrocuted. The murderers were certainly attempting to pressure the general, didn’t they?

The motive for these extremely savage murders still remains a mystery. A robbery which went wrong is obviously the first one. A four wheel drive vehicle, a Toyota Rav 4, and a laptop actually vanished. In such cases, the usual “suspects” are often the home’s servants generally intriguing with the raiders. The General’s family attested the existence of a servant working only in the morning. This person is however unknown to the neighbors and to the Fokontany.

“The general and his wife were simple people; they used to dump themselves their own garbage to the bin,” declared one neighbor who cannot believe the existence of any domestic worker. Dumping garbage is however allowed in the evening. Considering that this servant was working merely on mornings, no wonder that this chore was not hers.
Still, this servant is not yet clear of trouble for so much. Had she come to work as usual, she immediately ought to have called the police, oughtn’t she? According to the estate of the bodies, the assault and the murders must have taken place over three weeks ago.

Various other clues are pointing at another direction. The mess and the score of valuable objects left behind would suggest that the raiders were more than simple robbers? They left a bucket filled with blood in the living room, and the general’s uniform hat bathing inside. What kind of message is this? The idea of a politically motivated crime or a potential feud between officers is being raised.

General Claude Ramananarivo ‘s relatives addressed the police station as they noticed that the small family was no more being heard  of. The young girl already missed the traditional family meeting on March 25th, 2012. All of their five cell phones were out of order. The reaction came too late at any rate. There was nothing more to be done for them
