Putting a brand new though incomplete High Court of Justice in place for the sake of securing the Head of State’s position

"Lack of far sightedness", "amateur game play"… The Public Life Observatory SEFAFI did certainly not go easy on the current ruling power's leaders, said to be leading the country headfirst straight away to a major institutional crisis. A botched up decentralization act is likely to create many more problems than potential solutions... municipal and communal elections are now postponed on the pretext of taking time to complete the division process of the capital city in six communes... several territorial collectivities have to remain in the womb... ... So the public life observatory comes to ask the main question: how long will it take before the current chief of state is brought down by impeachment? The new Constitution entitles this ultimate sanction in response to certain types of violations, including, among other serious infringements, the failure to constitute the High Court of Justice. But the High Constitutional Court is expected to come to the rescue of the President and validate a High Court of Justice just as lame as it is itself. Read More »

Air Madagascar airlines: just not yet in safety zone

Although the very President of the Republic has the engagement of talks with both major aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing high on his schedule, it does not prove enough to restore confidence among the employees of Air Madagascar, still disappointed and still traumatized by the setback recently suffered when the government unexpectedly sided with Air France like a turncoat while it was audaciously challenged by them. As for the classification of the national airline company in the European aviation institution's B category, this issue would actually originate from the trade competition concerning the renewal of the fleet's aircrafts and from commercial exploitation policies as well. Ebola: no case ever reported in Toamasina according to the ministry

Nobody has ever been exposed to the Ebola virus either in Toamasina city or anywhere else in Madagascar. The single noticeable outbreak is that of formal reactions from the government in order to curtail any baseless panic wave. The head of the regional healthcare department of Toamasina city made it clear that neither city hospitals nor any other minor healthcare center have detected any infection with the Ebola virus anywhere. "There is no Ebola case whatsoever!" emphatically stated Frederic Rabearison. In the harbor city, a certain media group argued that one case of Ebola virus infection would have appeared. The very Head of Region quickly got a move on to dismiss this allegation before it scares local population and holiday makers away. "This allegation is wrong" emphasized Michel Talata. Read More »

Easy going regarding licensing, unfair competition, botched up transition to digital TV: storm brewing over corporate media

Private media group owners had a skull session and jointly protested at the local government's lack of transparency over some of its, no challenged initiatives deemed to affect local commercial broadcasting as a whole. Their joint statement addressed the emergence of the new television and radio stations answerable to the city council of Antananarivo, the irrational assignment of broadcasting licenses, the striking unequal of treatment in face of treasury and the common resistance to a forced switchover to digital broadcasting. Even though his name was not mentioned at any time, the Minister of Communication may consider his very authority as challenged in this issue. Read More »
