The 2009 national day celebration has been wanted original by the transition. It was the case, but for various reasons. The festive demonstrations didn't really hide the political and socioeconomic crisis which has been engulfing Madagascar since the beginning of the year.

June 26th: the day of the transition

In 2009, the military parade of June 26th had some particular significance. First, it’s been clearly displayed that Andry Rajoelina is the genuine supreme army chief. With a very military gait, he inspected the troops’ ranks, preceded by a bodyguard assault rifle in the hands.

The actual parade was so-said one different. The new army uniforms have been finally shown up . Three new helicopters offered by France to be used against raids for cattle, hovered above Mahamasina in formation. Beside the quick run of the police’s anti-gang service, paratroops of the regime’s intervention force and their quite slow walk showed off. In the stadium, the screenshot presented as the famous “mitabe” cliché of the second Republic has been quite appreciated.

The star of the day was the special Task force, controlled by the commander Lylson René and Charles Randrianasoavina, which paraded on board of vehicles. In the tribunes, the presence of French military aid worker didn’t go down like a lead balloon. The absence of ambassadors and foreign delegations was not a real surprise.

In Mahamasina, spectators were the subject of a meticulous search from fear of a bomb attempt. Less than one hour after the military parade, an explosion occured. There was more fear than damages but it was a genuine bomb. It didn’t hinder the crowd from celebrating in the afternoon though. The president of the High authority of transition and his wife Mialy Rajoelina, as well as Prime minister Roindefo attended the big concert of Rossy on the stage of Mahamasina.

So Analakely knew the usual affluences, the fireworks in Anosy didn’t unite the usual crowd. The explanation would be the scattering of the shooting points in the City of the One Thousand. In spite of a rather soft weather, lanterns parade didn’t blossom as usual. The shortage of “arendrina” was to blame. A certain frost was sensible during the independence day
