The next meeting of political mobility chiefs, programmed in the Mozambican capital city by the beginning of August, should be decisive. It theoretically ought to produce a new management pattern of the Transition.

Resolution of the crisis: The international Contact Group stands by a meeting in Maputo

The international community keeps on in its efforts to find a consensual solution to the Madagascan political crisis. In Antananarivo since July 28th, the international Contact Group’s delegation, led by the Mozambican ex-president Joaquim Chissano, already met the president of the High Authority of Transition, Andry Rajoelina. The delegation should talk with the members of the other mobilities from July 30th. A meeting with civil society representatives is also planned.

The present ICG mission on Madagascan soil once again aims at convincing the four mobilities committed in negotiations since June, to participate in the next meeting in Maputo by the beginning of August. Besides, the mission  will also draft a report about latest July 22nd’s talks resumption in Addis-Ababa.

The ICG has so far always been being confident. Despite the HAT boycott of July 22nd’s appointment, no mobility yet turned down the invitation to the meeting « on top level » in Maputo. It is supposed to gather the four mobilities’ leaders, Andry Rajoelina, Marc Ravalomanana, Didier Ratsiraka and Albert Zafy.

« All along the past meetings, participants constantly used to refer to their leaders, therefore it would be better to gather them now » affirmed the international organization of the French speaking countries’ Edem Kodjo who is part of the international community’s delegation in mission in Madagascar.

The ICG calls the Maputo meeting « decisive ». If all four mobility leaders take part, the mediators will get the opportunity to shape up the famous Transition’s charter which will define power sharing between the different parties and the management of a « concerted» and « inclusive » Transition before new presidential elections.
