The total cost of the rehabilitation works of the pavilion N°3 in the mother and child hospital at Tsaralalana amounts to 192 million MGA. This pavilion is now called “Rotary Akama” pavilion. The official inauguration of the newly-renovated place took place yesterday. The ceremony was headed by the Minister in charge of Public Health, the General Pascal Jacques Rajaonarison with the presence of all the generous donors which include, among others, the Association Karana Malagasy (Akama), Galana, Holcim, Anosy and Ainga Rotary clubs.
According to the head of the hospital, Dr. Annick Robinson, “The institution’s capacity to receive patients is improving year after year, but many things are still to be done such as the need to rehabilitate the pavilion N°4”. Almost 3 000 children from 0 to 14 years old per year are treated at the hospital which has only 59 beds available per day. After the rehabilitation works, the hospital will be able to receive up to 81 children. Shelly Oukabay, president of Akama said that “the initiative of the Association, dating back to 2008, aims to contribute to the reduction of infant mortality. In order to achieve such aim, the institution has to offer its patients a healthy place with a maximum of well-being and healthcare”. The latter also took the opportunity to declare the association’s commitment to renovate the pavilion N°4, and to call upon generous donors to give for sick children.
