The figure is held by the UNICEF´s bureau in Madagascar as terrifying. Some 138 000 children had to leave school between 2010 and 2011. 500 000 children in all are, in the end, no more educated, mainly as a consequence of the political crisis.

More than 500 000 children out from school

In big cities, namely in Antananarivo, children are taken out of school for their parents lost their jobs.

As factories shut doors, scores of families had to cut on their spending, and consequently keep junior away from school.

The situation appears even more alarming, bearing in mind that the rate of educated children was regularly increasing before the year 2009´s putsch. Official figures were actually reaching in these days a 90% high threshold.
