“UNICEF starts distributing school kits in southern Madagascar now. And the distribution of those school kits, for the benefit all primary school children, will continue until the end of the year”, announced on Friday, October 7, Bruno Maes, Resident Representative of UNICEF in Madagascar.
Given the announcement of this UNICEF official, the distribution of school kits did not wait for the return of all the off-road vehicles, belonging to UNICEF, which are used by some HAT officials since 2009. Recently, UNICEF has warned HAT regime that it must return these off-road vehicles if the latter wants the school kits to be distributed. Until now, six vehicles are still detained by their users. Bruno Maes points out, however, that “the return of all these vehicles would facilitate the release of additional funds for children of US$ 27million from the United Nations”.
According to Bruno Maes, the future of the 450.000 Malagasy children still unschooled depends on the return of the off-road vehicles, and the payment of the HAT regime of its contribution in financing the Education for All.
