“Giving a fish to the hungry is to solve his problem for a day. Whereas teaching him to fish to provide for his own needs is helping him to feed for his entire life”. This metaphor illustrates the purpose of the Wednesday Morning Group, a charity association working for the needy and vulnerable people to improve their everyday life. Bringing together some sixty members with representatives from nearly a dozen nationalities, these women have committed themselves to the task of providing support through social actions to improve sustainable livelihoods to people living in poverty and in deprived areas.
These social actions include projects of drinking water supply through the construction of fountains, or the sensitization and training concerning the adoption of family planning. The association also supports the “Asama” initiatives, implemented by UNDP, which consists of giving children who are out of school the chance to get their first official degree, CEPE. For that, WMG has provided some public primary schools with classroom materials.
In order to carry out its projects, Wednesday Morning Group performs two annual fundraisers. For this 48th edition of the “Bazar de Noël” (Christmas Bazaar), having for theme “Féeries de Noël” (Enchanting of Christmas), the event will bring together 63 participants, with the presence of eight embassies through seven stands all of which offer a shower of gifts for Christmas. The event will take place, as usual, at the Carlton Hotel on November 26, 2011.
