Under the aegis of the Minister of Youth and Recreation, Ulrich Andriantiana, the department for the promotion of youth, along with ministry partners such as UNICEF and UNFPA, have officially launched the club of youth peer educators called “TandeM” (Tanora Mandray andraikitra eto Madagascar) yesterday. The role of the club is that its members, mostly young volunteers, are responsible for educating their peers. A role intended to empower children and youth so that they will be able to play an active role in their communities, to build capacity for the young volunteers and to be part of the development solutions.
Aged 13 to 24, these young volunteers, carrying their school guides and their manuals, are committed to helping the ministry to achieve its social goals. To attain these goals, the volunteers encourage their peers to attend youth centers and corners where young people with the support of partners such as UNFPA receive outreach trainings on reproductive health, early or accidental pregnancy and abortion. Moreover, the members of the club also help young people prepare their future life as parents through special exchange trainings. Thus, guiding sessions from the first meeting until marriage are given by the club members to their peers. Members of TandeM also provide trainings on citizenship, environment, culture, new technology and the media.
