A fox in charge of the hen house: a thorny corruption issue

If there is any truth to the various economic reports on the egregious conduct of French financial officials with regards to their mishandling of funds belonging to the French Agency for Development, or the European Union, it is an outrage, and it is a crying shame.
When the new administration, without an adequate multi-nation oversight committee in place, made the politically correct, but rather naive concession to allow France to remain Madagascar’s primary financial partner, and thus, give her substantial control of the Malagasy banking, and financial system, it may have, unwittingly, put a fox in charge of the hen house, and with potentially devastating results.

The new administration made this concession in good faith, out of respect, and in consideration for the century long social, cultural, and economic ties which exist between the two countries.
France should always keep in mind the spirit in which this major concession was granted, and should never forget that it merely gave her a privilege, not an inalienable right.
More importantly, though, the new Malagasy leadership should quickly put Madagascar’s financial house in order, and should create a multi-nation oversight committee, with a fully functional system of checks and balances, designed to end one country’s financial control monopoly, and to prevent financial corruption, and subversive criminal acts, such as fund misappropriation, and embezzling.
Because such acts are a fact of life, whenever a great deal of money is involved, and they generally create dangerous precedents which can potentially undermine the new leadership’s hard-earned credibility, and can ultimately keep it from achieving its various goals, it is imperative that the new zero tolerance policy be extended to, and enforced in this area, as well.
Zero tolerance for corruption, and injustice applies to everyone, including financial wolves in sheep’s clothing.
