Air Italy plane chartered by Air Madagascar: 165 passengers stranded in Paris

Apparently, the ordeal of Air Madagascar continues to linger in following the decision of the French Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to not allowing the plane to take off as it stated to have discovered some “technical problems” in the aircraft. Consequently, 165 passengers of the flight 055 MD Air Madagascar from Paris to Antananarivo, scheduled to leave last Wednesday, find themselves stranded in the French capital ever since. The plane belonging to Air Italy is chartered by Air Madagascar under a contract that will expire by the end of this month.

As a result of such decision, the national airline company is obliged to put the 165 passengers in hotels near the airport for a cost of approximately 90 Euros per passenger and per day. But the woes awaiting Air Madagascar can still be much more important than that. Indeed, according to the laws in force in European air transport, every passenger victim of such inconvenience may require from the deficient company (starting from 3 hours delay), a penalty of 600 Euros, which is approximately the average cost of a flight ticket.

But even worse, again according to these laws, each passenger, while deciding to sue the company, can get compensations of up to 7500 Euros. One can then easily figure out the damage that the national airline company will have to bear if all these cases are bound to happen.
