The Place itself, located not far from the harbor, happens to be very popular among travelers and the indigenous population. For overlooking the whole of the Bay of Antsiranana, the spot offers the best possible background for a snapshot as well as for enjoying the southern hemisphere’s sunset in the North of the Great Isle. The Place is only a quarter of an hour long walk away from the city center. A statue of Marshall Joffre is still standing there. The Marshall served in Madagascar by the beginning of the 20th century. General Gallieni took over him later on.
Antsiranana city, located at Madagascar’s northern tip, has enough of what it takes to claim the number one favorite coastal city title in Madagascans’ hearts, even if the city has been remaining isolated for a while. It is no more, and the Joffre Place offers a view on the sea, the harbor and the city, in brief on the treasure drawn from its remoteness.
