Atomic energy: Madagascar expresses its position

The 54th ordinary session of the general conference of the International Agency of Atomic Energy (IAAE) was being held in Vienna, Austria, from September, 20 to 24, 2010. The Great Island was represented during that conference by a delegation led by Rajemison Rakotomaharo, Madagascar’s ambassador and permanent representative in the United Nations’ offices in Geneva, Switzerland and in Vienna, Austria.

Expressing Madagascar’s views concerning nuclear issues during a plenary session gathering more than 150 State members, Rajemison Rakotomaharo stated that the Great Island is favorable to the pacific use of nuclear energy if it is targeted to promote socioeconomic development. Mr. Rakotomaharo also said that the Great Island is favorable to the non proliferation of nuclear energy, to disarmament, to the universalization and the reinforcement of the system guaranteed by the IAAE. But beyond his participation in the conference, Rajemison Rakotomaharo also took the opportunity to present his letter of credentials to the executive secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban-Treaty Organization (CTBTO) for being Madagascar’s accredited representative within that United Nations’ specialized institution located in Vienna.
