The French Minister in charge of Cooperation, Henry de Raincourt, is going to meet the new General Manager of ASECNA (Agency for the Air Navigation Safety in Africa and in Madagascar), Amadou Ousmane Guitteye, on Monday, March 28, in the morning. France reiterates its commitment to support ASECNA’s initiatives which consist of strengthening the aviation security. The talk between the two officials will also focus on the impact that the political crisis prevailing in Ivory Coast might have on ASECNA’s activities. The talk will also address the agency’s new management methods.
Founded in 1959, ASECNA brings together 18 member states, including France. Its mission is to provide airline services within the African airspace of its member states. The agency manages a number of ground facilities in the field of air navigation and meteorology. In addition to the community activities, national activities such as airport platforms management, performed under contracts with the state member, are also part of the agency’s mission. ASECNA has approximately 5000 employees, and it becomes financially independent from this year 2011 thanks to the fees paid by airline companies. The agency’s headquarters is located in Dakar since 1974.
