Press freedom: the Union of Journalists call the International Community for help

the Union of Malagasy Journalists sent a letter to the International Community begging it to react vigourously to the transitional ruling power's led violation of press freedom in Madagascar.In the run of a press conference, the Union's leading office emphasized anew the urgent need to allow some 80 radio and TV stations arbitrarily shut down by the ruling powerover the latest years. The charges held against four Malagasy reporters triggered the organization of a meeting at the Press Center on November 16th. Three of the concerned reporters attended it, namely Zo Rakotoseheno from MIDI MADAGASIKARA, Rocco Rasoanivo from LA NATION, and Herivonjy Rajaonah from GAZETIKO. Foundation of the brand new Union of Malagasy Journalists for Human Rights

A new group of reporters caught sight of the sunlight in the Malagasy capital city, namely the Union of Malagasy Journalists for Human Rights (local UJMDH). Its general assembly agreed on an official statute and elected Mrs. Matavimana Ravao Georgine, reporter for the Malagasy national TV channel (TVM) as first president of the UJMDH. She is equally Pilaza Joreh, the current general secretary at the transitional communication ministry.
