The price of rice is a central problem in Madagascar. Whereas the wages stagnate, the bying capacity of Malagasy progressively lowers as this product price increases. While it was sold about 2000 fmg the kilo in 1995, it is difficult to find a kilo for less than 4000 fmg today.
