Christian churches in action

Madagascar’s Christian churches are reaching the decisive crossroad. The political crisis  has sowed division seeds there too. Churchmen have chosen to react in face of the High Authority of Transition’s abuses. But it is not to everyone’s liking. 

Since some days, pastors who erected the « Churchmen’s Action » movement have been sharply criticized by the HAT supporters and the pro-Rajoelina media groups. 

A counteroffensive from the transitional president’s supporters is very likely on its way from the backstage.  

Some supporters of the ousted president Marc Ravalomanana have denounced forms of harassment directed against FJKM reformed church’s pastors. Most of those who founded the « Churchmen’s Action » actually all stem from the FJKM. It is only half surprising since Ravalomanana himself happens to be the Protestant church’s acting vice president.  

For decades, Christian churches used to closely get involved in Madagascar’s political life. They are very likely to keep doing so during the future next decades. Christian churches proved to have had a decisive weight in Madagascar’s political balance.
