Cleanup project “Miasa”: more than one billion MGA from the E.U

For the implementation of the cleanup project entitled “Miasa”, which will be carried out in the capital Antananarivo and its surrounding suburbs, the European Union released funds of 408,000 Euros, amounting to more than one billion MGA. The official launch of the project was held on Friday November 9, with the presence of the E.U representative in Madagascar, Leonidas Tezapsidis. The project “Miasa” will be implemented in some major localities of the Analamanga region, namely the rural Commune of Ampitatafika and Tanjpmbato, as well as the urban Commune of Antananarivo.

The project is undertaken by Gret in partnership with Enda Indian Ocean over a period of three years. In fact, according to the survey conducted by Gret and Enda Indian Ocean, 98% of the households located in the intervention areas have access to very precarious and unhealthy sanitation infrastructures, thus exposing the population in those areas to pollution and various diseases. To avoid such a risk, the project “Miasa” aims at improving the living conditions of 700 households in the most vulnerable sections of the localities cited above through cleanup campaign and through the distribution of affordable tools to clean up their immediate vicinity.
