Located approximately 80 kilometers of the capital, the road to Tsiafajavona is the way to reach the third summit of the Large Island.

Climbing at the top of Tsiafajavona

With a height a little more than 2600 meters, the peak of Tsiafajavona is the highest solid mass of Ankaratra, a solid mass which is spread out over approximately 100 kilometers in the center of the country. It is at the same time the third higher top of Madagascar, after Tsaratanàna (Northern) and the peak Baoby (center-South). To reach the top of Tsiafajavona, which means literally “where there are always clouds”, it is necessary to take, towards the East, the track which leads towards the commune of Manjakatompo starting from the small town of Ambatolampy. Various paths lead thereafter to the top of Tsiafajavona. The presence of a guide is highly advised since the place is often the subject of pagan worship. Certain taboos must be respected. The climbing can take one day or a few hours depending on your condition.
