District 9220: Rotarian Conference and Meeting in Madagascar

Each year, all members of the Rotary Club belonging to the District 9220 hold an annual meeting in the home country of its governor. Since the governor of that District for the year 2010-2011 is Malagasy, Andrianome Ranarivelo, Madagascar will then have the privilege of hosting the 15th Conference and the 15th Meeting of Rotary International which is going to take place from April 26 to 29, 2011 at the International Conference Centre (ICC) at Ivato.

“This will be an exceptional moment for Rotarians coming from the 7 countries constituting the District 9220 to meet friends, to share experiences, to assess achievements and to improve their knowledge”, said Governor Andrianome Ranarivelo during a press conference yesterday at the Relais de la Haute Ville at Anjohy. This will also be an opportunity to develop new visions and strategies which will be used to improve the lives of the most vulnerable people and to strengthen the bodies of the club working in various areas such as health, education, access to drinking water, and fight against hunger.

Nearly 400 participants are expected to attend the conference and the meeting of Rotarians of the District 9220, most of which are guests from Mauritius, La Reunion, Seychelles, Djibouti, Mayotte, and the Comoros. The district has now 1 400 members, belonging to 56 clubs, 19 of which are located in Madagascar, without forgetting the Rotaract Clubs which gather youths aged between 18 and 30. Various events are scheduled during this important international meeting, including Rotarian Conference which will be marked by an election of the new governor, cultural festivities and thematic conferences.
