Eight Billion Ariary for School Kits

This year about 950,000 students will receive these kits. Since 2002 it has become a tradition for the government to give out school supplies to students as a way to motivate them. According to Les Nouvelles newspaper, ” More than 8 Billion ariary has been allocated by the government to be spent on school supplies to be given out in 22 regions. They include a water-proof backpack, an eraser, pencil, pens, a pencil sharpener and colored pencils, a little blackboard, chalk and a sponge, plastic notebook protectors, a ruler and notebooks. These then are the contents of the school kits to be given out by the government to each elementary student whether in public or private school in all 22 regions.”
