“Grande Braderie de Madagascar”: 17 stands burnt down

Yesterday, residents of Mahamasina woke up, about 2:00 AM, to the sound of strong explosions which sounded just like cannon shots. Actually, the explosions were caused by fire that occurred inside the Sport and Culture Palace of Mahamasina. The fire was apparently caused by short-circuit in the electric system of the Palace. 17 stands of the commercial fair “Grande Braderie de Madagascar” have been burnt down and products worth more than 50 million MGA were destroyed during the disaster. Firefighters, who only arrived 30 minutes after the fire started, managed to extinguish the fire which, at that moment, started to reach the Sport and Culture Palace’s wall.

Outside observers wonder if the business owners who participated in the fair or the organizer of the event itself is insured. Indeed, it is often noticed that some organizers of such large events are far more concerned by the revenues collected from the event than the insurance. What is sure is that though the victims of yesterday’s fire were insured, they won’t be able to completely recover their losses.
