In the commune of Vohibato, in the Fianarantsoa region, acts of banditry have been reaching heights in violence, during the last weeks.
Vohibato is not the single rural area of the region which faced up to such insecurity. In a nearby village, a raid by cattle thieves led to the death of a family father. Two injured are still in hospital, and three houses have been burnt down by the raiders.
The « Dahalo » phenomenon resumes as it never did in the region. Those gangsters specially target the cattle.
In Vohibato, the Dahalos were armed with rifles. In the village of Andranomalaza, in the same locality, eight oxen have been stolen. In another township named Vohimarina, about twenty oxen have been stolen.
In response to this growing insecurity in rural area, the chief of region of the Matsiatra Downs had to mobilize the police forces. The state police bases are now on constant alert.
