The fight against locusts happens to be more complicated than usual this year. Swarms have been located 120 miles westwards from the capital city, around Tsiroanomandidy.

Locusts rarely succeed into reach so deep into Madagascar’s permanently watched region. The national council in charge of fighting them has rung the alarm few months ago, but the reaction failed from being enough to stop the invasion.

The FAO announced that 15 million dollars would be needed. The ruling government very recently provided a couple of billions of ariary, far from reaching the FAO’s account.
