The party founded by ex president Didier Ratsiraka has been for a long time held in disgrace. However that never stopped it from holding power. Arema came into being19th March 1976 at Ambohitsorohitra.  The party founder had himself risen to the highest post in the land so one might argue this party was born with a silver spoon in its mouth. 30 years later, the situation is totally reversed. Nostalgic for the glory days, her continued existence is somewhat in doubt held barely alive by the diatribes of its tired barons. The leaders are invisible. In this party everybody keeps a low profile.
