Maritime Labor Fair from February 1 to 3, 2012

The maritime service of the Indian Ocean (known as SMOI) will organize, from February 1 to 3, in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Andohan’Analakely, a fair dedicated to maritime labor, as part of the association’s aim to inform and promote the maritime labor, according to Serge Razakanaivo of SMOI. According to him, the number of seafarers in Madagascar is very low, about 5 000 men and women, while in other countries like the Philippines, there are more than 200 000 seafarers. So normally, for its 20 million inhabitants, Madagascar should have about 50 000 seafarers.

During the fair, candidates who are interested in the seafaring labor or micro-manager may submit their application forms. It is during the fair that they will be able to get more details about the selection criteria and related information. It is to be noted that the seafarers’ wages should follow the international standard. A seafarer is normally expected to earn US$ 1500 per month in addition to other allowances and benefits he or she could get.
