A small island in the eastern part of Madagascar is attracting more and more curious visitors in search of nature and scenery.

Nosy Mangabe, a lost island coming out of the shades

Located in the north east of the country, Nosy Mangabe is a small island of just over 500 hectares covered by dense forests and wetlands. It draws specific nature lovers because of its wealth of fauna and flora. One can discover there the famous aye aye type lemurs usually solitary and nocturnal. “brookesia”, ranked among the smallest in the world chameleons and many other wonders of nature may also be seen.

To reach Nosy Mangabe one must spend about half an hour or a little more on a boat taken in Maroantsetra. Some pleasance boats have, in recent months, also chosen to make stopovers on the island. Nosy Mangabe special reserve is classified. The existence of the tomb and, most importantly, the discovery of rock bearing the prints left by Dutch sailors constitute irrefutable proof of passage of human beings on this island prior to the 17th century.
