Projects of road rehabilitation and sea bank protection for the District of Morondava

Following the visit of the High Authority of Transition’s President, Andry Rajoelina, in the Menabe Region on Saturday, September, 25, the District of Morondava will get road rehabilitation and sea bank protection projects from the Government.

Concerning the sea bank protection project, living day after day under the threat of soil erosion and flood, the local population has been waiting for such kind of project for a long time. The total cost of the sea bank protection tops 6,227 Billion Ariary. This sum will be provided by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Malagasy Government. The sea bank protection works will cover a linear surface of 170m along the coast of Morondava, and will keep safe the local population for about 30 years.

As for the road rehabilitation project, it mainly concerns the road leading to the Morondava harbor, the road leading into Morondava’s tourist zones, and the national road N° 35. These sections of road are highly important for the region in that the majority of the income-provider activities of the local population depend on these roads. The project uses a budget amount of 2,707 Billion Ariary, and it is also financed by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Malagasy Government. The Company SOGREAH and SOMEAH take care of the management of both projects, while the COLAS Company undertakes their realization.
