Rosewood exportation: a Chinese company ready to be a potential buyer

While the issue of rosewood exportation is still unresolved and while the terms for the inventory control of rosewood has not yet been established, a Chinese company proposed to buy the entire rosewood stocks of Madagascar. This information was reported by Hery Randriamalala who conducted an investigation in the sector of precious wood in Madagascar for some time now.

According to the report of the investigation, the proposal of buying rosewood stocks was discussed in recent time during a meeting in Antananarivo between the Chinese company and some local government officials. The report also reveals that during this year 2012, illegally exported rosewoods were transported via small boats toward big ships which are anchored some distance away from the Malagasy coastlines. Still according to the report, China is the main destination of those illegally exported rosewoods. However, following an agreement established between WWF and China, the Chinese government pledged to bring to an end the illegal exportation of rosewoods from Madagascar. For that reason, the Chinese company which proposed to buy rosewoods from Madagascar promised to operate in absolute legality and transparency.
