Seaboard Corporation is planning to resume its activities in Madagascar

Seaboard Corp. has announced that it intends to resume its flour production activities in Madagascar nearly 2 years after the company decided to stop its local flour production. “The first cargo of wheat will arrive in the Great Island by the end of February and we will start the production in March” said Mark Reed, General Manager of Le Moulin de Madagascar.

The company Le Moulin de Madagascar plans to lease a flour mill in Antsirabe, which belongs to the state-owned company, Kobama, and also plans to store up to 24,000 metric tons of wheat in the port of Tamatave. Eventually, the company hopes to reach a production rate of about 4,000 tons of flour per month and to generate 25 million US Dollars benefits this year.

Seaboard Corp. stopped its production in November 2008 after complaining about the existence of unfair trade practices. “Now, there are new commercial opportunities in Madagascar because of the fact that the former President’s company, TIKO, is not working for the time being”, said Mark Reed. “So, in terms of Return On Investment, Madagascar represents an exciting opportunity for Seaboard”.
