Sustainable Development: UNESCO releases a new reference book

During the workshop held yesterday in the Falda Antanimena, the Malagasy National Commission for Unesco announced the release of a reference book dealing with national actions for Education for Sustainable Development (Anedd). This book of 625 pages contains five major themes, including training, environment, development, partnership and good governance. The information it contained evokes the course of actions of the Malagasy National Commission of UNESCO.

The release of this document is part of the program “Décennie de l’UNESCO pour l’Education au développement durable” (UNESCO’s Decade for Education in Sustainable Development). The Chair of the Unesco’s National Commission, Mahandrimanana Andrianainarivelo, said that “the release of the document was made possible through special funds from the UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris”, and he added that “this program is beneficial for all Malagasy economic operators.”

During the workshop, discussions were focused, first of all, on the presentation and approval of Anedd’s programs of 2012-2014, and then followed by the administrative and legal existence of the program. Also scheduled in the workshop is the presentation of the advocacy strategy, a logo contest and the submission of a document containing the Anedd’s Action Plan for 2012-2014.

According to officials, the official release of this reference book is expected before January 31, 2012. It is clear that this project is already a big step towards sustainable development, but “we still have a delay of seven years compared to other countries working with Unesco if we only talk about this program,” declared Anedd’s vice-president. And sustainable development is one thing, but a rapid and sustainable development is yet another story. We must catch up.
