The CENIT, the national electoral commission needs some 142 billions (about 50 millions of euros) to organize the year 2013’s elections in Madagascar. The commission expects support of that kind from the country’s international financial backers, who also have their own conditions.

The CENIT has unpaid debts, so the country international financial backers do obviously not want further support to be used to repay them. They made it crystal clear, that the CENIT will first have to repay its debts amounting to some 3.4 billions of Malagasy Ariary prior to receiving any additional support. The lack of money repeatedly used to affect the CENIT’s job, namely the census of potential voters. The organization of the year 2013’s elections is everything but a done deal
