The “Trano Mora” Project has been launched

“Trano Mora” (cheap house), the presidential project of social housing has recently been officially launched. In fact, according to the forecasts of a high official in charge of public procurement at the Ministry of Regional Planning and Decentralization, the construction of 700 houses is expected to begin in June. The call for tenders was published last Saturday. The estimated duration of the construction works is 4 months for each locality, namely Ambohidratrimo, Toamasina, Fianarantsoa, ​​Mahajanga and Toliara.

The construction of the “Trano mora” is only in its first phase. And in this first phase, the project expects to construct about 760 houses. At the time being, 60 houses are already being built in Anosiala. The model of house having 7m90x6m85 sizes, and comprising 2 bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and toilets will be applied during the first phase of the project. Other construction phases are scheduled in the course of this year and other models of houses will be selected. The plans of the houses will be changing but they will remain the same for all locations. According to a source within the Ministry of Regional Planning and Decentralization, a budget of 50 billion Ariary, coming from the Ministry’s own financial resources, will be allocated in this project during the year 2011. As stated by the President of the High Authority of Transition last November, these cheap houses will be accessible to all by credit at a rate of 150 000 MGA per month for five years. The total cost of the house amounts to 10 million MGA.
