Since the 70’s, Vaovy has been reflecting the country’s south’s misery in its lyrics. Many of its hits, like « Salakao » famed across the whole island, have been repeatedly sung by younger talents along the years.
Vaovy’s achievements were straining to stress the authorities and the Malagasy population in general about the southern region’s misery. This part of the Great Isle has been regularly facing up to droughts and starvation. As a reflection of such a fact, Vaovy’s rythms were times joyful, times quite heart wrenching.
The Malagasy authorities paid a ultimate tribute to Jean Gabin. His body will soon be moved from the capital city to Tsihombe in the Androy region, at the heart of the Great Island’s « deep south ».
